Lovebox festival was kicking off this weekend just gone and by all accounts it wasn’t too bad. The usual electronic festival standards were all there but alongside them were some heavy hitting hip-hop acts and a splattering of bands. Beneath we’ve picked some of our favourite tracks from the artists that graced Victoria Park with their noise. Hope you enjoy them, if you don’t, well I suppose you had better go bring it up with the artist, they made them, not us.
Swan Joshson: Submotion Orchestra – The Finest Hour [Rankin Records – 2010]
Although Mount Kimbie stole the show for me in terms of a mind blowing live performance, I was more than happy to fall, once again, in love with the subtle graces of the Submotion Orchestra. My heart became theirs after stumbling into their tent at Glade 2012, though their performance at Outlook later that year was sadly ruined by poor audio technicianary works. It wasn’t until this weekend past that I finally found these guys again and this track was a pure highlight through and through.
Peter: Gaslamp Killer – Anything Worse [Brainfeeder]
Don’t know too much about the guy to be honest apart from he’s signed to Brainfeeder and he makes some spooky/psychedelic/terrifying hip hop. What more needs to be known?
Ryan Shoespliff: Theo Parrish & Andrew Ashong – Flowers [Sound Signature]
At times I’ve found Theo Parrish’s production to be a bit Jekyll and Hyde but for this song he’s teamed up with Andrew Ashong, the British-Ghanaian musician, whose material I’ve just recently unearthed but love so much of. Their styles marry together comfortably for this lazy, hazy, intricate, feelgood track.
Sam Slaydem: The Joe McDuphrey Experience – Entrando Pela Janela
Been trying to get a grip on Madlib’s outrageous array of aliases lately. The Experience EP under his ‘Joe McDuphrey Experience’ guise grabbed me from the get go and this particular track had me grooving pretty hard.
